MY PHILOSOPHY
ABOUT ME
I have 4 children, ages 15, 19, 22, 23. I had 4 very different birth experiences, my fourth was a homebirth and I was fortunate to have a doula before the word 'doula' became known. From my own experience with a doula and having attended the births of three of my friends I knew that someday I would like to help other women in the way my doula helped me. I have waited until my children are more independent so that I am able to fully concentrate on my “Moms” and not be concerned about childcare for my own children. I am a certified birth doula through Doula's of North America (DONA). I am a Certified Lactation Counselor and have completed a 40 hour course and exam through Healthy Children and the Center for Breastfeeding. I am working toward my certification to become a Certified Childbirth Educator through International Childbirth Education Association. (ICEA) I am also presently a student in the beginning stages of pursuing an RN degree. My first, and foremost passion though is working as a Birth Doula. As my children grew I became a very active volunteer in their school and after school activities. I was room mom for all four, PTA president, fundraising chair, team mom for their sports teams, Girl Scout co-leader for eight years and involved in Aviation Explorers. I worked within the classroom as an aide. Within the local Air National Guard Military Unit I worked with Family Support in various ways during their deployments and served as the Wing Representative for Tricare. During our 15 years in California I was very passionate about the safety of our schools in regards to earthquakes. I took extensive training to write and implement disaster plans in our schools and was instrumental in the widespread interest to prepare schools throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. I taught search and rescue to teachers, administrators, staff, and students. I set up district wide drills and built disaster programs for schools from the ground up. I helped guide the families of the 129th Air National Guard Wing in preparation so that they would be prepared if their military member was called to duty following a disaster. This allowed the military member to be assured that his/her family was fully prepared to survive in his/her absence. We moved to Florida in July of 2003 for a military transfer and have enjoyed life on the beautiful Emerald Coast. In 2007 I pursued my passion for birth and love for helping other women by becoming a Birth Doula. I fully enjoy sharing my knowledge and helping expecting parents on their birth journey. I am back on the Emerald Coast taking clients after a short stint in Orlando for school. I look forward to talking with and getting to know more about you and your desires for your birth! |
ABOUT ME
MY PHILOSOPHY
My philosophy as a doula is simple. I believe that labor support is as individual as the woman who seeks it. Each pregnant, laboring, childbearing woman’s needs and desires are varied and my goal is to help you and your partner have as close to your ideal birth as you have imagined it would and could be. I educate you, support you, and 'listen" with a non-judgemental ear to you throughout your pregnancy, labor, delivery, and early postpartum period. This is one of the most intense, exhilarating, and sometimes overwhelming times of your life and I believe that every woman should have the opportunity to birth in the way she desires and believes, if medically possible. I do not bring my own agenda to your birth, but your desires and needs which you have communicated to me through prenatal visits and our work together. I encourage partner participation to the extent they are comfortable. I will not only support you continuously through your birth journey but will encourage and show your partner tried and true techniques to comfort you. I believe a doula's care extends to your partner and other family members. (See my Dad's and Doula's page)
